NetBlocks, the internet freedom watchdog, announced that internet shutdowns and restrictions in Iran have entered their 80th day, with the duration of the digital blackout now exceeding 1,896 hours. NetBlocks also reported that, alongside the ongoing internet restrictions, a surge of pro-government content has flooded social media platforms inside Iran.
According to the report, several Iranian citizens attempting to gain access to the so-called “White SIM Card” internet or specialized internet tiers (Internet Pro) said they were required to publish a designated daily quota of promotional posts supporting the regime on their social media accounts.
NetBlocks claimed that compliance with and enforcement of these content quotas are being monitored using artificial intelligence-driven tools.
