Four young men are facing criminal charges after allegedly hitting a transgender woman with their car and leaving her injured on a street in the Athens suburb of Kallithea, police have said.

According to police, the incident began Thursday evening on Syngrou Avenue, when the suspects – aged 19 and 20 – allegedly approached the 47-year-old woman in a car, verbally abused her and threw eggs and other objects at her.

Police said the group later returned to the area and again insulted the woman, including remarks targeting her gender identity.

A short time later, as the woman was walking home, the suspects allegedly struck her with their vehicle, injuring her before abandoning her in the street.

The four men were subsequently arrested.
