Mizan claimed that Abbas Akbari was one of the “armed leaders” of the protests in Nain and had opened fire on security forces during an assault on the city’s governorate building and several other government centers.
According to the report, following his arrest, he was tried on charges including “enmity against God,” “intentional destruction of public property,” “disruption of public order and security,” and “assembly and collusion against internal national security.”
The judiciary’s media outlet stated that the court issued the death penalty based on “the defendant’s confessions,” video footage, law enforcement reports, and the discovery of a handgun at his residence. According to Mizan, the verdict was upheld by the Supreme Court upon review and was executed this morning.
In its report, the Islamic Republic’s judiciary characterized the protests and clashes of January 8 and 9 as an “American-Zionist coup,” claiming these events were carried out with the backing of “hostile terrorist elements.”
