Nagapattinam Collector P. Akash has warned the public against using electric motors to draw water illegally from combined drinking water pipelines maintained by the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage (TWAD) Board. In a statement, the Mr.Akash said the district administration had been taking steps to ensure equitable distribution of drinking water to all areas in village panchayats across the district during the summer season. However, complaints had been received regarding unauthorised water connections and the use of electric motors to extract water from pipelines supplying combined drinking water schemes operated by the TWAD Board, as well as from local panchayat water sources.Mr.Akash said such illegal practices were affecting the supply of drinking water to residents in tail-end areas and causing shortages for the general public.People who had obtained unauthorised water connections or were using motors to draw water from pipelines were urged to voluntarily disconnect such connections and stop using motors immediately.Mr. Akash warned that if such violations were detected after the issuance of the notice, the illegal water connections would be disconnected and the motors seized. He appealed to the public to use drinking water sparingly during the summer season.
