Dionysis Temponeras, a prominent member of left-wing SYRIZA, has quit the party to support the new formation expected to be announced by former party leader and Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras Tuesday.
Temponeras submitted his resignation to his local party branch.
His quitting the party came as no surprise.
“I am certain that SYRIZA will make the right decision in the coming days and will politically support Alexis Tsipras’ project without conditions or preconditions, responding to the need for a new unity. A cycle is closing and a new one is opening for the entire left-wing and progressive world,” Temponeras had written in a recent article.
A few days earlier, SYRIZA Secretary Stergios Kalpakis had quit his post, but not the party, noting that, in the coming national election, likely to take place in Spring 2027, he wouold not stand as a candidate.
