A video recorded by ABC News correspondent Selina Wang captured the terrifying moment gunfire erupted near the White House on Saturday evening, forcing journalists covering President Donald Trump to duck for cover and run for safety.Wang had been filming a routine social media video from the White House North Lawn while discussing Trump’s remarks on a possible Iran deal when the shooting began. In the footage, which quickly spread across social media, the journalist suddenly stops mid-sentence as loud bangs ring out in the background. We were told to sprint to the press briefing room where we are holding now.”According to the US Secret Service, the shooting happened shortly after 6 pm near 17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue, close to the White House security perimeter. Authorities said a man pulled a weapon from his bag and began firing before Secret Service officers returned fire, fatally wounding the suspect. Court records reportedly show he had previous encounters with authorities, including a 2025 incident in which he allegedly attempted to enter a White House checkpoint without authorisation and claimed he was Jesus Christ.Trump, who was inside the White House at the time, was unharmed. Secret Service communications chief Anthony Guglielmi said no officers were injured during the incident.The shooting marked the third gunfire-related security incident near Trump in the past month, adding to growing concerns around political violence in the United States. In a post on Truth Social early Sunday, Trump praised the “swift and professional action” of the Secret Service and described the suspect as having “a violent history and possible obsession” with the White House.
