Team New Zealand will go into the final day of opening preliminary regatta of the 38th America’s Cup in second place.
Racing in the scaled-down AC40 foiling monohulls, the Kiwis recorded a win, a second place and a third place on the second day of fleet racing in Cagliari on Sunday (NZT).
It leaves them on 47 points after two days of racing, eight behind Luna Rossa Women’s and Youth Team.
Ahead of Monday’s two fleet races and a championship match race, Luna Rossa is third on 44 points and Team New Zealand’s Women’s and Youth team is fourth on 39 points.
Nathan Outteridge’s Kiwis started with a bang on Sunday, battling toe to toe with Luna Rossa, before crossing 2sec in front to secure their second win of the regatta.
