It was a British challengers who - unfortunately for them - proved the major talking point on the opening day of official racing in the latest America’s Cup cycle in Italy.

While Team NZ, with both teams sitting on 20 points after three races in the opening day of Cagliari’s Cup regatta, would have reflected on an up-and-down day’s work in the scaled-down AC40 foiling monohulls, it was the British who created the biggest drama in the preliminary regatta.

While there was no shortage of tension as the eight boats arrived to negotiate the choppy conditions, it was Great Britain’s youth and women’s team, Athena Pathway, who had negotiate the biggest headache after it capsized.
