Tax and customs authorities said Friday they had dismantled a large-scale liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) smuggling network following coordinated raids across the country.
The Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) said more than 100 inspectors operating in 28 teams carried out simultaneous inspections at businesses in 14 locations, including Athens and Thessaloniki.
Raids were also conducted in Agrinio, Ioannina, Kalamata, Karditsa, Katerini, Kastoria, Nafplio, Rhodes, Rethymno, Santorini and Trikala.
Authorities said the operation led to the seizure of 15 tanker trucks and 293,000 liters of LPG. Two individuals were brought before a prosecutor following customs and tax inspections.
Investigators also uncovered what officials described as an illegal outdoor LPG storage facility.
