Stricter punishments and more intensive enforcement of the law have led to a visible reduction in fuel smuggling in Greece. It is now much more difficult for those who break the law to stay in business.

In a time of energy crisis, however, one cannot rest just because the problem has been relatively contained. The state must exhaust all the means at its disposal to dismantle the criminal gangs.
