Bulgaria is expected to experience mostly unsettled and rainy conditions during the May 23-25, 2026 long weekend, according to the national meteorological service (NIMH).

The period coincides with the extended celebration of May 24, the Day of Saints Cyril and Methodius and Bulgaria’s Day of Education, Culture and Slavonic Literature. In 2026, the holiday falls on a Sunday, with May 25 designated as an additional non-working day.

Forecasters warn that weather across the country will be unstable, with frequent short-lived rain showers, thunderstorms, and possible hail in multiple regions.

Saturday is expected to bring the most significant precipitation, particularly in northern Bulgaria, where rainfall amounts may be higher. Winds will be moderate from the north-northwest, while eastern areas will see a northeasterly wind that is expected to intensify on Sunday. Daytime temperatures will generally remain in the range of 19 to 24 degrees Celsius.

Conditions are expected to gradually improve at the start of the new week. On Monday and Tuesday, rainfall will become less widespread, mainly occurring in the afternoon and mostly in mountainous areas, while sunnier intervals will become more frequent.
