A special graduation A father hooding his son during a graduation ceremony at DUT
For most parents, watching their child graduate is already an emotional milestone. But for one Durban father, this year’s graduation ceremony became something even more special — a once-in-a-lifetime full-circle moment shared on stage with his son.
At the 2026 Autumn Graduation ceremony at Durban University of Technology, Acting Deputy Registrar Vikesh Singh stepped onto the graduation stage not only as a university official, but also as a proud father.
For more than 20 years, Singh has been part of DUT’s graduation ceremonies, helping thousands of students celebrate one of the biggest moments of their lives. This time, the graduate walking across the stage was his own son, Yashay Singh.
The 22-year-old graduated with a Diploma in Information and Communication Technology in Application Development and was hooded by his father in front of a cheering audience.
