The BG-ALERT early warning system has been activated four times since the beginning of 2026, following 87 activations in 2025, according to Interior Minister Ivan Demerdzhiev, as cited by BGNES. The figures were presented in response to a parliamentary question assessing the system’s operational performance and readiness.

Authorities report that since its introduction into regular use in April 2024, BG-ALERT has functioned in line with technical requirements and remains continuously maintained for emergency deployment. Official statistics show three activations in 2024, a sharp rise to 87 in 2025, and four cases so far in 2026, all linked to hazardous situations requiring public warnings.

“The system was activated 3 times in 2024, 87 times in 2025 and 4 times in 2026 in connection with dangerous events and warnings to the population,” the minister said, outlining the usage data provided by the Interior Ministry.

The General Directorate for Fire Safety and Population Protection has carried out 49 training sessions since May 1, 2026, aimed at improving institutional preparedness for using the system. These trainings included representatives from 237 municipal administrations, 28 regional administrations, as well as officials from the Ministry of Energy and the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology.
