A nationwide test of Bulgaria’s BG-ALERT emergency warning system will take place on June 2 between 11:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., following its postponement from April 1, 2026. The Ministry of Interior said the exercise is intended to verify the operation of all components of the system through a dedicated testing channel.

Authorities reminded citizens that receiving test notifications depends on the settings of their mobile devices. The designated test channel can be activated or deactivated by users, meaning only devices with the appropriate settings enabled will receive the alert messages. Officials urged anyone wishing to take part in the test to ensure that the test channel is switched on beforehand.

The ministry noted that the exercise is designed solely to assess the technical readiness and reliability of the BG-ALERT platform, which is used to distribute emergency notifications to the public in critical situations.

Later in the day, at exactly 12:00 p.m., Bulgaria’s National Early Warning and Notification System will also be activated as part of the annual commemoration of Botev Day. The sirens will sound across the country for two minutes to honor “Botev and those who died for the freedom of Bulgaria.”
