Bulgaria has reaffirmed its support for coordinated European Union and United States efforts aimed at achieving what it describes as a “just and lasting peace” in Ukraine, grounded in the UN Charter and principles of international law.
The position was outlined by Foreign Minister Velislava Petrova during talks with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha on the sidelines of a NATO Foreign Ministers’ meeting in Helsingborg, Sweden, according to Bulgaria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
During the discussion, the two sides reviewed cooperation in several key areas, including security, energy policy, reconstruction efforts, and logistics support linked to Ukraine’s ongoing war-related challenges.
They also addressed Ukraine’s path toward European Union membership, including expectations for the opening of the first negotiation cluster, known as “Fundamentals,” as part of the pre-accession process.
A separate point of focus was Ukraine’s Bulgarian minority, described as the largest historical Bulgarian diaspora abroad, with Sofia emphasizing its importance to Bulgarian national interests and state policy.
