Bulgaria supports the efforts of the “Coalition of the Willing” to assist Ukraine but does not intend to take part directly in any international force deployed to the country, according to comments by analysts discussing the latest developments surrounding the war and possible future security guarantees for Kyiv.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, speaking during celebrations marking Ukraine’s independence anniversary, said his country would not make concessions to Russia at any price. His remarks came as the “Coalition of the Willing” again discussed ways to support Ukraine, including possible security guarantees and the potential involvement of individual countries.
Journalist Valery Todorov said on Nova TV that Bulgaria’s position was to support countries willing to contribute, while avoiding direct participation. “There are different desires in the ‘Coalition of the Willing’. We support those who want to, but we do not want to participate directly,” Todorov said.
He argued that Bulgaria does not have the capacity for direct involvement and noted that the concept of an international force in Ukraine has itself changed as discussions have progressed. According to Todorov, initial estimates of the number of troops required showed that none of the participating countries was prepared to provide the necessary level of forces.
