TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Rosan Perkasa Roeslani, Chief Executive Officer of the Investment Management Agency of Nusantara (BPI Danantara), announced that Luke Thomas Mahony has been appointed to helm PT Danantara Sumberdaya Indonesia (DSI) as its Chief Executive Officer.Rosan explained that the board of directors for the state-owned enterprise (SOE) will be unveiled in the near future. He noted, "We can see his track record and capabilities, just like when we first formed Danantara." The announcement was made at the Presidential Palace complex on Thursday, May 21, 2026.Mahony's appointment coincides with the issuance of a Government Regulation on Natural Resource Commodity Export Governance by President Prabowo Subianto. The new directive designates PT DSI as the exclusive exporter for strategic commodities, including palm oil, coal, and ferroalloys.Luke Thomas Mahony is an Australian national who previously served as a Director at the nickel mining giant PT Vale Indonesia Tbk. from July 2024 to September 2025. According to his LinkedIn profile, prior to stepping into the CEO role at PT DSI, he served as the Senior Executive Vice President of Business Performance & Optimization at Danantara starting in September 2025.Before his tenure at Vale Indonesia, he was the Chief Technical Officer at Vale Base Metals from December 2022 to February 2024. He was subsequently appointed as the company's Technical Director, serving from February 2024 to August 2024.In total, his career at Vale spanned eight years and six months. He initially served as the General Manager of Resource Development & Long Term Planning from July 2014 to January 2017, before moving to Mozambique as the Technical Executive for the Global Coal Business from January 2017 to March 2019.He later ascended to Global Head of Geology, Mine Engineering, Geotechnical, Tailings Dams, and Technology, holding the position from January 2019 to December 2021. Following that role, he was stationed in Canada as the Global Head of Technology & Innovation from October 2021 to December 2022.Before his extensive stint at Vale, Mahony also built his career at BHP Billiton. He started there as a Principal Business Analyst, a role he held from July 2010 to November 2011. He then moved up as Manager of Reporting from October 2011 to August 2012, transitioned to Manager of Production Projects from September 2012 to February 2014, and wrapped up his time there as Manager of Production Prestrip from February 2014 to June 2014.Academically, Mahony earned his Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering from the University of New South Wales, studying there from 1999 to 2002.
