TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Danantara CEO Rosan Perkasa Roeslani has explained the appointment of Luke Thomas Mahony as President Director of PT Danantara Sumberdaya Indonesia (DSI). Mahony, an Australian national, previously served as Director of PT Vale Indonesia.Rosan said Mahony was selected based on his strong track record in the mining sector and his experience in multinational companies.“We had various considerations, including his track record. He also has a deep understanding from his previous experience at Vale, a multinational company,” Rosan said at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta on Friday, May 22, 2026.He added that despite being a foreign national, Mahony is fluent in Indonesian and has strong personal ties to the country.“He can also speak Indonesian, and his wife is Indonesian,” Rosan said.Rosan stressed that the key factor behind the appointment was Mahony’s expertise in managing mineral and mining commodities, as well as his global industry network. He also highlighted Mahony’s recent performance within Danantara.“The most important thing is his experience in trading minerals, leading various mineral companies, and his extensive network. His recent work at Danantara has also been very good,” he added.Mahony’s appointment comes in line with a government regulation issued by President Prabowo Subianto on the governance of natural resource commodity exports, which designates PT DSI as the sole exporter for commodities including palm oil, coal, and ferroalloys.Mahony served as Director of PT Vale Indonesia Tbk from July 2024 to September 2025. According to his LinkedIn profile, before becoming President Director of PT DSI, he was Senior Executive Vice President for Business Performance & Optimization at Danantara starting in September 2025.M.
