A. Amalraj takes charge as Greater Chennai City Police on Friday

Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) A. Amalraj on Friday (May 22, 2026) took charge as the Greater Chennai City Police Commissioner. He replaced the incumbent Chennai City Police Commissioner Abhin Dinesh Modak, who has now been posted as ADGP, Crime Branch-CID.Earlier, Mr. Amalraj was given a guard of honour by personnel from the Armed Forces at the Commissioner’s office. He formally signed papers to mark taking charge as Commissioner. Additional Commissioners and Joint Commissioners greeted himMr. Amalraj is an officer of the 1996-batch of Indian Police Service (IPS) and was until recently the Commissioner of Tambaram commissionerate.As Inspector General of Police, he has served as Commissioner of Police in Salem, Coimbatore, and Tiruchi. He headed the Central and West Zones of the State police. Dr. Amalraj also served in Theni, Madurai, Ramanathapuram, and Salem in different capacities.
