Inspector General of Police (IGP) N. Kannan assumed office as the Commissioner of Coimbatore City Police on Saturday (January 3, 2026). He replaced A. Saravana Sundar, who took charge as IGP, West Zone.
Mr. Kannan served as the Additional Commissioner of Police, Law and Order, South, Greater Chennai Police. His previous stints include IGP North Zone, IGP South Zone, IGP, Armed Police, Chennai.
After his first posting as the Assistant Superintendent of Police in Kovilpatti, Mr. Kannan had served in Kanniyakumari, Sivaganga, Coimbatore and Krishnagiri districts as the Superintendent of Police. Besides having a long stint with the Intelligence Bureau on Central Deputation, Mr. Kannan had also served as First Secretary in the Indian Embassy in Nepal. He had served as Deputy Inspector General of Police (Intelligence) upon his return to Tamil Nadu in 2019.
