Kapil Kumar C. Saratkar has assumed office as Madurai City Commissioner of Police.A 2002-batch Indian Police Service officer, Mr. Kapil has succeeded Abishek Dixit, who has been transferred as Inspector General of Police, Railways.Mr. Kapil has been hitherto serving as Additional Commissioner of Police. He has served in Tirunelveli, Madurai and Thoothukudi districts in different capacities.Interacting with reporters, Mr. Kapil said that he would concentrate on ensuring safety of women and children. Any crime against them would be acted upon expeditiously. The new ‘Singa Penn’ force would further strengthen this task.Stating that drug abuse has been a big menace for the youths, he said all efforts would be taken to strengthen the system to eradicate it.Mr. Kapil said that all the good work taken to contain rowdyism and caste-based clashes in Madurai would continue. Similarly, swift action would be taken to detect cyber crimes in which people were losing money due to their lack of awareness or greed.With regard to foot patrolling, the new Commissioner said that the new initiative was aimed at breaking the barrier among the common man in interacting with the senior police officers. Besides, it would give the officers a feel about the ground situation.Deputy Commissioners of Police, S. Madhivanan (Madurai North), R. Rajeswari (Headquarters), S.
