TUGUEGARAO CITY, CAGAYAN, Philippines — A villager in Sanchez Mira town in Cagayan province was convicted of cyberlibel for posting a cropped photo of the town mayor and a woman.

The Regional Trial Court Branch 6 in Aparri, Cagayan ordered Edwin Sacramed to pay P50,000 fine with subsidiary imprisonment in case of insolvency.

Sacramed, also known as Edsac Sacramed, of Centro 1 in Sanchez Mira, Cagayan, is a trader in Quezon City. He could not immediately be reached for comment on his conviction and fine.

The case stemmed from his Facebook post wherein he uploaded a cropped photograph of a woman and Mayor Abraham Bagasin, tagging the latter as the “new wife” of the former.
