BAGUIO CITY — A network of digital advocates welcomed moves to hold individuals accountable for statements that may cross legal boundaries following the filing of complaints against a vice mayor in Isabela province over alleged social media posts and statements that authorities said may constitute incitement and cyber-related offenses.

Digital Pinoys national campaigner Ronald Gustilo said freedom of speech and opinion must always be respected, but stressed that citizens also have the responsibility to exercise these rights prudently.

“The public remains free to criticize policies, question public officials, and express opinions on matters affecting the country, as a healthy democracy depends on active public participation and open discussions. However, freedom of expression is not without legal boundaries,” Gustilo said.
