Former Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, Emeka Anyaoku, has urged Nigerians to vote in the 2027 general elections only for political parties that are committed to restructuring the country’s governance system.

Anyaoku made the call in Lagos on Thursday at a press conference following a meeting of The Patriots, where concerns about the state of the nation and the 2027 elections were discussed.

He said the group remained committed to advocating a non-partisan national consensus aimed at entrenching a democratic “people’s constitution” capable of addressing Nigeria’s governance challenges.

According to him, the country’s present constitutional arrangement, derived from the 1999 Constitution, is inadequate for resolving the scale of insecurity, poverty and political instability currently being experienced.
