Speaking to journalists at the park on Friday, Sowore said the Commissioner of Police for the FCT Command invited him to a meeting with individuals who claimed to be the original owners of the recreational facility, following complaints lodged against the protest movement.
Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore has alleged that a group of businessmen claiming ownership of Jabi Lake Park reported activists opposing the alleged takeover of the park to the Nigeria Police Force in an attempt to stop a planned protest over the disputed land.
Speaking to journalists at the park on Friday, Sowore said the Commissioner of Police for the FCT Command invited him to a meeting with individuals who claimed to be the original owners of the recreational facility, following complaints lodged against the protest movement.
According to Sowore, the meeting further reinforced activists’ concerns that the land was being appropriated for private interests allegedly linked to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
He claimed that out of the approximately 14 hectares making up the park, about three hectares had allegedly been allocated to Wike himself, describing the development as a “hostile takeover” of public land.
