The protest, themed #SaveJabiLakePark, is expected to draw a wide range of residents who regularly use the park for fitness, relaxation, and other recreational activities.

Residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) are set to stage a mass protest on Saturday, May 24, over the alleged illegal and arbitrary takeover of the popular Jabi Lake Park by the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.

The protest, themed #SaveJabiLakePark, is expected to draw a wide range of residents who regularly use the park for fitness, relaxation, and other recreational activities.

As part of efforts to amplify their demands, protesters mounted a giant banner at the site, calling on the Minister and the developers to vacate the park or face mass action.

Speaking to journalists at the park on Wednesday, human rights activist Omoyele Sowore said the demonstration became necessary after the expiration of the seven-day ultimatum issued to the Minister last Wednesday, demanding that the decision be reversed and the park left untouched.
