MANILA, Philippines — The Pasig River Ferry Service resumed operations on Thursday, May 21, following maintenance work on its boats amid a high volume of garbage in the waterway, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) announced.

The ferry service had been suspended since Tuesday, with the MMDA citing a “severe increase of trash in the river that is causing damage and malfunctions to the boats.”

However, in an advisory issued Thursday, the agency said: “The MMDA Pasig River Ferry Service’s operations have returned to normal today after repairs to the ferry boats affected by the amount of garbage in the river recently.”
