The integration of all nurses, nursing assistants, as well as ambulance drivers and paramedics of the National Health System (ESY) and the Emergency Medical Service (EKAB) into unhealthy and hazardous professions will finally happen, as the Labor Ministry proceeds with a regulation that has for years been a demand of workers in the public health sector.

That was not based only on the requests of the unions, but mainly on society itself, which recognizes the critical and extremely demanding role that frontline workers play in hospitals and emergency services.

In fact, trying to create a broader framework that will make health professions more attractive to young people, the Health Ministry is expected to present other interventions in the near future.

On Tuesday, Labor Minister Niki Kerameus confirmed on Open TV that the integration in this category of nurses, nursing assistants, as well as ambulance drivers and paramedics of ESY and the Emergency Medical Service is progressing.

As she stated, this is “an important regulation” that will support a professional sector that works under particularly difficult and burdensome conditions.
