“From the conduct and line of questioning during the meeting, it became apparent that the original intention of the DSS might have been to intimidate and possibly detain those involved over the growing public campaign and media exposure surrounding the matter,” the statement read.
The Youth Rights Campaign (YRC) has accused the Department of State Services (DSS) of attempting to intimidate activists and a nursing student involved in a dispute with the management of Ezzy International College of Nursing Science, Enugu State, over allegations of repression and suppression of dissent within the institution.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by its National Coordinator, Michael Adaramoye Lenin, and National Secretary, Francis Nwapa, YRC said that sustained public pressure and media exposure forced the DSS to soften its approach after initially planning to intimidate and possibly detain those connected to the public campaign surrounding the matter.
The statement followed the visit of a suspended student nurse of the college, Mrs Ifeoma Nwaogaranya, to the DSS Enugu State Command on Tuesday after she was invited over the YRC’s intervention in her “unjust verbal expulsion” from Ezzy International College of Nursing Science.
