On Tuesday morning, May 19, Ahmadreza Haeri, an imprisoned civil activist in Karaj’s Ghezel Hesar Prison and an early member of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign, was tried once again via video conference. The trial took place within the framework of cases linked to anti-death penalty activities, while his imprisonment continues.

The “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign, which began approximately two and a half years ago in Ghezel Hesar Prison, was initiated by a group of political prisoners. It has continued for consecutive weeks across dozens of prisons nationwide, with prisoners staging hunger strikes to protest the carrying out of death sentences.

According to reports received by human rights organizations, Ahmadreza Haeri faced charges including “propaganda against the regime” and publishing narratives regarding executions and prisoner conditions before Branch 1 of the Public and Revolutionary Court of Karaj. This comes as he serves his fourth year of imprisonment, during which multiple new cases have been opened against him.

Haeri, who was transferred to Evin Prison in May 2023 to serve his sentence, had previously been sentenced to prison in a separate case by Branch 26 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court on charges of “assembly and collusion” and “propaganda activities against the regime.” Reports also indicate that his total combined sentence has increased to over six years in recent months.
