The verdict for six of the defendants in the case known as “Shahrak-e Ekbatan” (Ekbatan Town) has been issued by Branch 13 of Criminal Court One of Tehran Province and was communicated to the defendants’ lawyers yesterday.

Reporting the news on Wednesday, May 20, the Hrana news agency wrote that, based on the issued verdict, Milad Armoun, Alireza Kafaei, and Amir Mohammad Khosh-Eghbal were each sentenced to pay an equal share of a full human blood money (diya) and to serve five years in prison on charges of complicity in intentional murder. Additionally, Alireza Barmarzpournak, Hossein Nemati, and Navid Najaran were acquitted of the charge of complicity in intentional murder due to a lack of evidence indicating that they struck any specific part of Arman Aliverdi’s body.

Previously, in November 2024, Branch 13 of the Tehran Criminal Court had sentenced all six defendants to death. This verdict was overturned by the Supreme Court in September 2025, and the case was referred back to the same branch for retrial.

The “Shahrak-e Ekbatan” case traces back to the killing of Arman Aliverdi, a member of the Basij paramilitary forces, during the nationwide protests in November 2022. Following this incident, at least 50 young residents of Ekbatan Town were arrested, and indictments were issued against 14 of them.
