The East Azerbaijan Provincial Appeals Court has sentenced 13 Azerbaijani Turk activists to a combined total of 81 years and five months in prison.
According to a report by HRANA, the news agency of the Human Rights Activists News Agency in Iran, the verdict of the East Azerbaijan Provincial Appeals Court was officially served to the defendants’ defense counsel on Saturday, May 16.
Based on the issued ruling, Yorush Mehr Alibeygloo was sentenced to six years and two months in prison on the charge of “forming an illegal group,” and three years and seven months in prison on the charge of “assembly and collusion against national security.”
Furthermore, Hamed Yeganepour, Ebrahim Awazzadeh, Araz Ebrahimnejad, Hossein Azadi, Amir Hossein Aghaei, Naser Razmju, Davoud Shiri, Javad Sudbar, Mehrdad Qaderi, Ali Babaei, and Mohammad Reza Movahed were each sentenced to two years and nine months in prison on the charge of “membership in an illegal group,” and three years and seven months in prison on the charge of “assembly and collusion against national security.”
Additionally, Morteza Noormohammadi was sentenced to two years in prison on the charge of “assembly and collusion against national security.”
