Texas attorney general Ken Paxton has sued Netflix, arguing its data collection practices and autoplay feature violate the state’s deceptive trade practices law.
Paxton said Netflix “monetises billions of behavioural events”, adding that it “uses intentional engineering to track and log users’ viewing habits, preferences, devices, household networks, application usage, and other sensitive behavioural data”.

The lawsuit, filed in Collin County on Monday, cites a 2020 statement by Netflix co-founder and former chief executive Reed Hastings that “we don’t collect anything” and that the company is “focused on just making our members happy” rather than motetising ads.
