MANILA, Philippines — With all the developments in Vice President Sara Duterte’s looming impeachment trial, one of the constant messages from the prosecution team is that they are ready to present pieces of evidence that are strong enough to merit a guilty verdict.

But what happens if the Senate, sitting as an impeachment court, would not allow evidence gathered by the House of Representatives to be presented in open court?

In a press briefing on Tuesday, panel member and Iloilo Rep. Lorenz Defensor believes that if the Senate denies the presentation and admission of key evidence against Duterte, it will reflect badly on the senator-judges.

“We are not concerned that the evidence we have prepared for presentation at the impeachment trial may be blocked. If they will block that, remember that we are not the ones in trial, the people will also judge our senator-judges,” Defensor told reporters at the Batasang Pambansa complex.
