Six staff members at Maplehurst jail were fired and more than a dozen others were suspended for their roles in the prisoner abuse scandal that continues to jeopardize criminal prosecutions in the province.
It is the first time the tally of disciplined officers has been made public. The Ontario government has steadfastly refused to answer questions about its handling of the December 2023 incident, when guards were found to have abused nearly 200 inmates in a co-ordinated act of retribution after an inmate punched a guard.
