SYRIZA formally expelled lawmaker Pavlos Polakis from its parliamentary group, a move announced in Parliament after tensions escalated over his criticism of party leader Sokratis Famellos.
Party officials described Polakis’ weekend social media post as “the drop that overflowed the glass,” after he accused Famellos of “silence,” “lack of initiative” and “indecisiveness” amid intense maneuvering in Greece’s center-left and ahead of former Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras’ expected announcement of a new political movement.
SYRIZA’s parliamentary group now has 24 lawmakers, while independent lawmakers rise to 29 total.
