The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) says investigations are ongoing into the disappearance of two-year-old Angelo Tobias Plaza of Goodwood, Tobago.The TTPS said while the matter is still being treated as a missing persons case, the Homicide Bureau has also been engaged.In a media release issued yesterday, the TTPS stated that officers initiated “a coordinated and comprehensive response” immediately after receiving the report of the child’s disappearance on May 11.Police said a search operation was conducted in and around the child’s residence with the involvement of multiple agencies. The exercise included searches of the surrounding areas and the nearby coastal waters where the child was last reportedly seen.Investigators have also interviewed several individuals and recorded statements as part of the investigation.The TTPS said the matter continues to be treated as a missing person investigation. However, the Homicide Bureau of Investigations and the Special Victims Department have also been engaged “to provide additional support and to ensure that all investigative avenues are thoroughly examined.”According to the release, investigators are taking “a wide, methodical, and meticulous approach” to the case, including consideration of “issues surrounding parental responsibility,” which police described as a critical component in cases of this nature.Police said the child’s parents are currently assisting investigators with enquiries in keeping with standard procedures where there is a potential breach of parental duty.The TTPS stated that investigators continue to pursue all necessary lines of investigation and described the matter as “a highly sensitive and active investigation.”The release said the TTPS remains committed to conducting the investigation with “professionalism, fairness, and respect for the constitutional rights of all parties involved,” while also communicating with the public “in a measured and responsible manner.”Police acknowledged that the incident had affected the national community and urged members of the public to exercise restraint in their commentary and allow the investigative process to continue without interference.Search efforts remain ongoing, and the TTPS appealed to anyone with information that may assist in locating Angelo to contact the Scarborough Police Station, call 555, 800-TIPS, or Tobago 211.The TTPS also said the Commissioner of Police has directed additional resources to support the investigation, including assistance to the Child Protection Unit and the assignment of a Legal Officer from Trinidad.Police further advised the public against sharing material that may constitute potential evidence or information already provided to investigators, warning that such disclosures could affect the integrity of the investigation.The TTPS said updates will be provided when further information becomes available.
