Defence Minister Angie Motshekga has shifted the blame on the extension of the employment contract of Chief of the SANDF, General Rudzani Maphwanya, on President Cyril Ramaphosa.
Motshekga has faced criticism for allowing Maphwanya to remain in office despite reaching the retirement age of 60.
This after reports surfaced that the minister failed to explain why Maphwanya, who is 65 years old, held onto his position five years beyond the normal military retirement age.
Responding to DA MP Chris Hattingh, Motshekga confirmed that Maphwanya was appointed to the position after he had reached the compulsory retirement age.
