A 50-year-old foreign worker lost his right hand when it was caught in a belt-driven machine on the island of Nisyros on Saturday.

The man was rushed to the General Hospital of Kos at approximately 10.30 a.m. where he underwent a four-hour surgery, the hospital director, Nikos Fanios, told stare-run broadcaster ERT.

The man remains hospitalized and his health is described as stable.
