Michael Fassbender is in negotiations to join Brady Corbet‘s mystery-shrouded next feature, Variety has learned.

Rumoured to be called “The Origin of the World,” the film marks Corbet’s followup to his highly acclaimed 2024 epic “The Brutalist,” which landed 10 Oscar nominations, including actor for Adrien Brody, cinematography and original score.

The Insneider previously reported that Selena Gomez was involved in the film.

Little is officially known about the project, but Corbet has offered various pieces of information in interviews. Speaking in late 2025, he said that it would be an X-rated movie that took place mostly in the 1970s.

“The film spans from the 19th century into the present day — it’s just predominantly focused on the ’70s. The film is really, really genre-defying,” he said. It’s also reportedly being shot the using very rare eight-perf 65mm cameras.
