Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam MLA from Madurai East Assembly constituency S. Karthikeyan has appealed to the Commissioner of Police (Madurai City) to curb sale of narcotic substances in Madurai, especially, in his constituency.

The MLA said narcotic substances, especially ganja, was available near markets and educational institutions. Madurai East constituency, he said, was thickly populated and had a mix of urban and semi-urban areas. Strict enforcement by the authorities would help people keep away from the menace.

Speaking to media persons later, he said at a time when Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay had directed closure of 717 Tasmac outlets across Tamil Nadu, the police should identify the people who sold narcotic substances in the city and its peripheries and help the people live a hassle-free life.

The government, Mr. Karthikeyan said, would work for the people and that as an MLA, he would be available for the people all the time. “I am planning to establish an office where the common people can come and air their grievances. I assure that they would be redressed swiftly without any expectation of benefit in any form in return,” he added.
