A man from the Bulgarian town of Svilengrad has been detained after authorities say he made a series of false bomb threats targeting buildings in the city of Pleven, according to BTA, citing the Pleven Interior Ministry.

Police reports indicate that the alert was received through Bulgaria’s emergency number 112. Around 6 p.m. on May 13, the 40-year-old caller claimed that explosive devices had been planted in five different locations across Pleven, prompting an immediate response and the formation of an operational investigation team.

Authorities quickly used data from the 112 system to trace the caller’s location. This led officers to an address on Spartak Street in Svilengrad, where they identified a man previously known to law enforcement. He reportedly has 13 prior theft-related records and one earlier case involving a false report.

During the inspection, officers also examined his mobile phone, which confirmed his involvement in placing the calls. Officials later established that the bomb threats were entirely fabricated.

The suspect was taken into custody for up to 24 hours under expedited proceedings. Local police in Svilengrad subsequently notified their counterparts in Pleven that the alerts were hoaxes, confirming there was no real explosive threat at any of the reported locations.
