A team of officials from the Bureau of Indian Standards, Chennai Branch Office, seized about 3,000 toys and nearly 2,870 packs of balloons without the ISI mark during a raid in the city on Wednesday. A press release said the raids were conducted at three establishments in Sowcarpet — Ambika Stores and Mahaveer Enterprises in Narayana Mudali Street and Shetrapal Impex in Rattan Bazar. The team found the firms storing and selling toys and related products in violation of the Quality Control Orders. The operation was carried out with C1 Flower Bazaar Police Station. S.D. Dayanand, Senior Director and Head, BIS Chennai Branch Office, said the ISI mark signified conformity to Indian Standards and protected consumers from substandard products.
