A team of Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) recently seized eight deep freezers without the mandatory BIS Standard Mark from the warehouse of Flipkart India Private Limited — an e-commerce platform — at Alamathi in Tiruvallur district.

These products fall under the scope of the Refrigerating Appliances (Quality Control) Order, which demands a standard mark.

S.D. Dayanand, Senior Director and Head, BIS Chennai Branch Office, said the sale of products without a valid BIS licence or the use of fake or misleading ISI markings was a violation of the BIS Act, 2016.

There are plans to take more enforcement actions to prevent the misuse of the ISI mark. Consumers must ensure that products covered under mandatory certification bear a valid ISI Mark before purchase. They may also lodge complaints with BIS through the BIS Care App or by email at cnbo1@bis.gov.in.
