Nicole Minetti, Silvio Berlusconi's former dental hygienist and an ex People of Freedom (PdL) Lombardy regional councillor, has said that questions raised by a daily newspaper about her successful request for a presidential pardon are groundless.
President Sergio Mattarella on Monday wrote to the justice ministry asking it to look into alleged falsehoods in her clemency plea regarding a two year, 10 month sentence for pimping for sex parties, which was commuted on February 18 on humanitarian grounds because she allegedly had to care a gravely ill child she adopted in Uruguay.
The justice ministry said later on Monday that none of the "negative elements" reported in articles by Il Fatto Quotidiano featured in documents regarding the request but also authoritzed Milan prosecutors to do further checks.
Minetti said the reports in Il Fatto Quotidiano were "groundless and seriously damaging to my personal and family reputation".
She said she had told her lawyer to take legal action to stop the newspaper and its journalists spreading "more false, defamatory and harmful news".
