A 44-year-old man involved in a fatal road accident on the Durgam Cheruvu cable bridge in Madhapur of Hyderabad was apprehended in Ooty, Tamil Nadu, and brought back to the city on Sunday (April 26, 2026).

The accused was identified as 44-year-old Mohammed Abdul Naveed, a data centre technician with an IT background, residing at S A Colony, Tolichowki. The victim, 32-year-old Gosa Shyam Raj, a businessman from Aditya Nagar in New Hafeezpet and a native of Ghatkesar, died in the incident.

According to police, the accident took place in the early hours of April 19 around 3.15 a.m., when a Mercedes-Benz car bearing registration number WB 06 B 7003, travelling from Jubilee Hills towards IKEA, hit the victim while he was standing on the Cable Bridge. He sustained severe injuries and was shifted to a private hospital, where he died around 4 p.m. while undergoing treatment.

Police said Naveed fled the city with his family on April 19 after seeing videos and news reports about the accident. He is said to have first travelled to Jahangir Dargah at Kothur and then proceeded via the Bengaluru highway to Mysuru, where he stayed for a day, before moving to Ooty and staying in a hotel for three days.
