The Deputy Commissioner of the Chamarajanagar district, Shreeroopa, has issued directions to educational institutions not to compel students to wear blazers, ties, and heavy uniforms due to the heatwave conditions sweeping the district.

The Deputy Commissioner’s statement was issued on Saturday (April 18, 2026), when the Chamarajanagar district recorded a maximum temperature of 38.8 degrees.

Ms. Shreeroopa has instructed all private aided, unaided, and government schools and colleges not to make students wear blazers, ties, or other heavy uniforms mandatorily in view of their health and safety.

“During the heatwave period, wearing heavy uniforms, blazers, and other uncomfortable clothing may adversely affect students’ health. Therefore, educational institutions are instructed to allow students to wear light, loose, and comfortable clothing, in accordance with institutional discipline,” the statement said.

As a precautionary measure, all educational institutions must ensure adequate provision of clean drinking water in all rooms. Outdoor activities should be avoided during peak afternoon heat. Students should also be made aware of illnesses caused by heatwaves.
