The Directorate of Education (DoE) has rolled out a set of precautionary guidelines for schools, including a ‘water bell’ that should ring every 45-60 minutes to remind students to drink water. The move follows a yellow alert issued in Delhi a day earlier over heatwave-like conditions.
The circular, issued on Tuesday, cited the India Meteorological Department’s warning about a rise in mercury over the coming days and directed school heads to follow the measures strictly.
Under the guidelines, outdoor assemblies are to be curtailed or moved indoors and kept as brief as possible. Students must carry adequate drinking water, and schools must ensure safe, cool drinking water is available at multiple accessible points.
“Parents have been advised to send children in light, breathable cotton clothing. They should reinforce the importance of daily bathing and personal hygiene to help children reduce the impact of heat,” stated the circular.
