Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said Thursday that he will visit Beirut in the next few days to show Italy's support for Lebanon as it comes under attack from Israel.
"Italy is ready to do its part for Lebanon's stability," Tajani told a press conference following the informal MED9 ministerial meeting in Split.
"Italian soldiers are present in the country not only on multi-national missions but also on bilateral missions to assist the Lebanese armed forces.
"We are working to organize my trip to Beirut in the coming days to speak with President (Joseph) Aoun and send a clear message from Italy regarding the stability of this important country." Tajani on Wednesday summoned the Israeli ambassador to Italy after an Italian UNIFIL vehicle in Lebanon was hit by IDF warning fire without anyone being hurt.
Premier Giorgia Meloni also condemned the incident and called for Israel to end its offensive in Lebanon, saying its attacks had "caused too many deaths and an unacceptable number of displaced people".
