A total of 46 candidates have thrown their hat in to the ring of the battle for four Assembly segments in Tiruvarur district.

According to an official release, 22 nomination papers were received in Thiruthuraipoondi Assembly segment on April 6 and after scrutiny and withdrawal of duplicate nominations, nine candidates, including U. Balathandayutham of AIADMK and K. Marimuthu of the CPI, were in the fray.

At Mannargudi, 29 papers were received and finally nomination of papers from 15 candidates, including that of MLA T.R.B. Rajaa of the DMK and S. Kamaraj of the Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam, were accepted.

At Tiruvarur, a total of 17 nomination papers were received and of these eight nomination papers, including that of MLA Poondi K. Kalaivanan and Govi Chandrasekaran of the BJP, were finally accepted after scrutiny and withdrawal of nomination papers.

At Nannilam, 34 nomination papers were received and after scrutiny and withdrawal of additional nomination papers, 14 candidates, including Mohamed Mubarak of the DMK and R. Kamaraj of the AIADMK, were accepted, sources said.
